Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 pieces chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces Opt for fresh, organic chicken for best flavor.
  • 6 cups broccoli, cut into bite-sized pieces Look for firm, bright green florets.
Seasoning and Sauces
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup chicken broth Use low-sodium if preferred.
  • ½ cup soy sauce Low-sodium soy sauce is a healthier alternative.
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • ¼ cup cornstarch Use to thicken the sauce.
Garnish
  • Green onions and sesame seeds Optional, for garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, season the chicken pieces with garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and paprika, ensuring an even coating.
  2. In your crockpot, whisk together the chicken broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and hoisin sauce until well blended.
  3. Add the seasoned chicken to the crockpot and gently toss until coated in the sauce.
Cooking
  1. Cover the crockpot and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours or HIGH for 2 to 3 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
  2. In a small bowl, mix ¼ cup of the sauce with cornstarch until smooth. Pour it back into the crockpot and stir well to avoid lumps.
  3. Layer the broccoli on top of the chicken mixture, cover, and cook on HIGH for an additional 20 minutes, allowing the broccoli to steam.
  4. Serve hot over rice or noodles. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds for a delightful finish.

Notes

You can prepare the chicken mixture a day in advance. Leftovers can be frozen for up to three months. Adjust cooking time based on your crockpot’s performance. For variations, consider vegan options or adding fresh ginger for a flavor boost.
