Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 26 oz frozen homestyle meatballs A quick option that saves time, but you could also make homemade meatballs for a personal touch.
  • 1 small onion, sliced Fresh onions provide the best flavor. Look for firm onions without any blemishes.
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup For added depth, opt for low-sodium varieties.
  • 1 packet (1 oz) Lipton Onion Soup Mix
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese Or use Swiss or Mozzarella for a milder flavor.
  • 1-2 tablespoons cornstarch This combo helps thicken the sauce for a gravy-like consistency that clings to the meatballs beautifully.
  • 1-2 tablespoons water

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by placing your slow cooker on the counter. Add the frozen meatballs, spreading them evenly.
  2. Layer the sliced onions over the meatballs and pour the French onion soup on top. Sprinkle the Lipton Onion Soup Mix and give it a gentle stir.
Cooking
  1. Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for 4–6 hours or on high for 3–4 hours.
  2. 10 minutes before serving, sprinkle the shredded cheese over the meatballs and cover again.
  3. If desired, combine cornstarch and water in a bowl, then stir it into the slow cooker during the last 30 minutes of cooking.

Notes

Consider adding fresh herbs like thyme or parsley halfway through cooking for extra flavor. Serve these meatballs over buttery egg noodles or creamy mashed potatoes.
