Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 to 2 pounds / 700-900 grams) Fresh chicken breasts should have no odor and feel firm to the touch.
  • 1/3 cup honey (113 grams) Opt for raw or organic honey for authentic flavor.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (60 ml), low sodium preferred A low-sodium option reduces overall saltiness.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Fresh minced garlic adds a robust taste.
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (30 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup (30 grams)
  • 1/4 cup water (60 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (8 grams), mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water (optional, for thickening) Optional for a thicker sauce.
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • 2 stalks green onions, thinly sliced (optional, for garnish)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, and water until smooth.
  2. Place the chicken breasts evenly in the bottom of the slow cooker, avoiding overlap for even cooking.
  3. Pour the honey garlic sauce evenly over the chicken breasts, coating each piece well.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and is tender enough to shred with a fork.
  2. About 20 minutes before serving, mix cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry. Stir this into the slow cooker, turn heat to high, and cook for another 15-20 minutes until the sauce thickens (optional).
  3. Once thickened and chicken is tender, sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish.
  4. Serve hot over steamed rice, mashed potatoes, or with your favorite vegetables.

Notes

This dish can be adjusted in sweetness and seasoning. Marinate the chicken in advance for enhanced flavor.
