Ingredients

For the Chicken
  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts Choose fresh, high-quality breasts for the juiciest chicken.
  • 2 cups pretzel crumbs Use store-bought for convenience or crush your own soft pretzels.
  • 1 cup flour For dredging the chicken.
  • 2 pieces eggs Beaten, for the egg wash.
  • 1 cup milk For the egg mixture and sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard Feel free to experiment with different types of mustard.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Opt for sharp cheddar for more flavor.
  • Salt and pepper to taste To season the chicken.
  • Oil for frying For frying the chicken until golden.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Season the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Set up your breading station: place flour in one bowl, a mixture of beaten eggs and milk in another, and the pretzel crumbs in a third.
  4. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip into the egg mixture, and coat with pretzel crumbs.
Cooking
  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry each chicken breast for about 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown.
  2. Transfer the chicken to a baking dish and bake for 15-20 minutes, until thoroughly cooked.
Sauce Preparation
  1. In a saucepan over low heat, combine Dijon mustard, shredded cheddar cheese, and a splash of milk. Stir until cheese melts and sauce is smooth.
Serving
  1. Serve the crispy chicken drizzled with the mustard-cheddar sauce, garnishing with herbs or greens if desired.

Notes

For best results, maintain crispiness by frying the chicken first before baking, and consider double coating for extra crunch.
