Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup sour cream Opt for full-fat for richer flavor; Greek yogurt can be a substitute.
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Divided; fresher is better.
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese Use fresh for an ultra-melty result.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch For thickening the sauce.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano Fresh can be used, double the amount for intensifying flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste salt and black pepper

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange the chicken breasts in the baking dish in a single layer.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together sour cream, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, cornstarch, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  4. Place one slice of mozzarella cheese on each chicken breast.
  5. Spread the sour cream mixture evenly over the chicken, then sprinkle the remaining Parmesan on top.
Cooking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  2. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, pound the chicken breasts for even cooking and check for doneness with a meat thermometer. Customize flavors with herbs like thyme or rosemary.
