Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 500 g chicken thighs or breasts, boneless and skinless, cut into bite-sized pieces Chicken thighs provide more flavor and juiciness than breasts.
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch Helps achieve a crispy exterior.
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup honey Pure honey is recommended for authenticity.
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce Opt for low-sodium if watching sodium intake.
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil Optional
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic enhances flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger Optional but adds flavor.
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water For thickening the sauce.
  • toasted sesame seeds For garnish.
  • sliced green onions For garnish.

Method

Cook the Chicken
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken pieces and arrange them in a single layer, cooking for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they’re golden brown and fully cooked. Transfer them to a plate and set aside.
Make the Sauce
  1. Lower the heat to medium and in the same skillet, combine the honey, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil (if using), garlic, and ginger. Stir everything together and bring to a gentle simmer.
Thicken the Sauce
  1. Gradually add the cornstarch slurry to the sauce mixture. Keep stirring for about 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens to a glossy, coat-worthy consistency.
Combine and Serve
  1. Add the cooked chicken back to the skillet, tossing to coat the pieces evenly in the sticky sauce. Cook for an additional minute to allow the flavors to meld together, then serve hot.

Notes

For an inviting presentation, sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the chicken just before serving. Adjust sweetness or saltiness of the sauce based on preference.
